I’m Maggie Bria, and I suppose you could call me an amateur historian of sorts. Earning my bachelor’s in History at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2014, I originally planned to go on and get my PhD in the field but changed my mind in my final undergraduate year; somehow, in a crazy twist of fate, I ended up on an extremely different route, graduating with a master’s in Information Science two years later and even working for NASA for a bit.
Whatever I am or am not now, I have always loved history, have a newer found love of STEM, and can’t-stop-won’t-stop learning. Knowledge doesn’t seem to make me very powerful, but it sure does make me happy. They say sharing is caring, so I hope you’ll stay awhile and learn something today. This site constitutes a melange of history, nostalgia, design, and other inspiration.
I am a Christian, and a North Carolinian by birth. I married a Tar Heel-convert in 2016, and we live near Pensacola, Florida. Our overweight, orange cat keeps us company and might love our new sunny locale more than we do. When I’m not writing, I’m cooking something from America’s Test Kitchen or reading something from my Goodreads list.
In addition to some academic publications, I have also written for one of my favorite blogs, Messy Nessy Chic. Read my articles on a Muslim princess who fought off Nazis, some glam 1920s beachwear, and American jazz diplomacy during the Cold War.
